Against the backdrop of the escalating on-again, off-again trade war with the U.S., China and Russia have moved away from a key requirement for western aerospace companies to establish joint ventures with local industry as it picks suppliers for its new long-range CR929 jetliner.
The requirement, which extends beyond aerospace, has long been considered by some western firms and their governments to be a form of forced technology transfer and a key sticking point for the Trump Administration, which alleges China is extracting U.S. intellectual property in exchange for access to its civil aerospace programs.
