Garret Graves: Boeing-specific legislation ‘premature’ before NTSB report finalized

Representative Garret Graves, Chair of the House Aviation Subcommittee, is cautioning against moving too quickly on a Boeing-specific legislative package like the one that Senate Commerce Committee Chair Maria Cantwell is drafting, which would reportedly focus on production and quality concerns following the Alaska 1282 door plug incident in January.

Graves, in a wide-ranging, one-on-one interview with The Air Current, called introducing such a bill before the National Transportation Safety Board publishes its final report “premature,” barring any immediate safety holes identified by it or the Federal Aviation Administration during the course of the investigation.

A spokesperson for the Senate Commerce Committee declined to comment on whether or not it plans to move ahead of the NTSB other than saying that “the Commerce Committee will continue its oversight work.”
