FAA rolls back 90 day commitment to implement new ATC fatigue rules

The Federal Aviation Administration has rolled back its original commitment to implement within 90 days its recently announced rest rule changes for air traffic controllers, according to a May 3 memo sent by Air Traffic Organization Chief Operating Officer Timothy Arel to all controllers that was reviewed by The Air Current.

The rules will now be implemented in 2025, in the normal course of the agency’s advanced negotiation process for controller schedules in collaboration with the National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA) as a part of their collective bargaining agreement (CBA).
