FAA grants Airbus certification of A321XLR, P&W EASA approval slips into 2025

The Federal Aviation Administration has quietly certified the Airbus A321XLR, clearing the way for U.S. operators of the aircraft to begin taking deliveries in 2025.

According to the Type Certification Data Sheet that accompanies each certified aircraft family, the A321-253NY, the technical designation of the extended-range A321XLR powered by CFM International Leap-1A engines, was granted certification by the FAA on Oct. 2, 2024. This was not disclosed by the U.S. aviation regulator until Dec. 5, 2024 as part of the most recent revision to the A320-family data sheet. 

Airbus confirmed the aircraft was granted FAA certification with CFM engines. The European Union Aviation Safety Agency certified the aircraft with CFM engines on July 19.
