PARIS — In a sideline conversation with Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO Stan Deal following a press conference here in Paris, he said a conceptual 787-9 freighter is “probably not” going to need a folding wing to act as a 767-300ER replacement and fit the same ramp footprint. Deal, however, said that the company is going to try and build new 767 freighters for as long as it can, seeking an exemption that lets Boeing continue new production after 2028 when environmental rules related to the plane’s CO2 emissions would have barred its delivery. Additionally, Stephanie Pope, CEO of Boeing Global Services also reined in the company’s broader converted freighter strategy, opting to table a company-converted 777-300ER that had been widely expected to materialize, though diverging dynamics in both freight and widebody markets made it unnecessary.
