Alaska Air Group is converting a portion of its outstanding order for Boeing 787-9s to larger 787-10s as the airline fortifies its international expansion plans out of tightly-constrained Seattle, the airline tells The Air Current.
“Can confirm we’ve converted some of our 787s to -10s,” a spokeswoman for the airline said, noting that the volume, timing and additional details on the conversion would be shared “soon.”

Alaska is in the midst of a major strategic transformation, integrating Hawaiian and relocating its 787 fleet from Honolulu to Seattle rebranded with Alaska colors and a new paint scheme. The airline’s international strategy has sparked the next chapter in the fierce fight with Delta Air Lines for control of the Pacific Northwest hub.
