The mystery electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft spotted at the Mojave Air & Space Port in California this week is a full-scale technology demonstrator (FSTD) developed by Supernal, the eVTOL developer owned by Hyundai Motor Group.
Photographer Matt Hartman of Shorealone Films captured images of the aircraft on Feb. 10 and shared them online, prompting rampant speculation. The Air Current has since confirmed that the aircraft is Supernal’s FSTD, which the company is using to test various subsystems and build up its flight testing capabilities.

The FSTD bears little resemblance to the S-A2 design that Supernal revealed last January at CES 2024 in Las Vegas. However, that’s not necessarily surprising, because the company was transparent at the time that its FSTD would have a different appearance than its production concept.
