On May 12, 2022 The Air Current editorial team hosted an in-depth and candid discussion with Steve Csonka, executive director of the Commercial Aviation Alternative Fuels Initiative (CAAFI).

Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) has been embraced as a key enabler of the aviation industry’s path to net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Yet SAF is still much more expensive than fossil jet fuel, and supply is less than 0.05% of total jet fuel demand. TAC explores the history of SAF, the challenges associated with scaling production, and what needs to happen for alternative jet fuels to deliver on their climate promise.
