The upcoming Dubai Air Show is shaping up to be a commercial aircraft arms race between the United Arab Emirates and neighbor Saudi Arabia. Heading into the Middle Eastern aerospace exposition that begins on November 13, TAC conversations with airline and industry officials all point in the same direction.
Between a massive widebody order from Emirates airline, a (Airbus and/or Boeing) single-aisle commitment from Flydubai, and the pending single-aisle portion of Riyadh Air’s fleet creation, a final tally of the week’s commitments for firm and optioned aircraft could approach 500 to 1,000 aircraft between the airlines of the two countries. Additional details on the Kingdom’s Neom investment in Boom’s supersonic airliner are also forthcoming.
