About The Air Current
The Air Current is the essential intelligence platform for aviation. We produce deeply reported journalism and analysis that informs leaders, investors, engineers, communicators and strategists in the global aerospace sector and beyond. We operate on a sustainable subscription model, delivering value through exclusivity, depth and trust — not through clicks.
Our coverage spans commercial aviation, aerospace manufacturing, strategy, technology, regulation and defense. Through our premium offerings — including longform reporting, short-form scoops, early-access PDFs and our Airflow news feed — we serve readers who rely on authoritative and timely information to make decisions.
Now, we’re expanding our team.
The Role
We’re looking for a Senior Reporter or Senior Editor to join The Air Current’s award-winning newsroom. Depending on your skills and experience, you’ll be breaking original stories, crafting deeply-researched analytical features, shaping editorial strategy and/or mentoring others. The precise subject matter you’ll cover is deliberately open-ended. We want you to bring your own obsessions to the table — whether that’s airline strategy, supply chain, air cargo, aerospace financing, defense programs, certification systems, a regional focus such as Europe, China or India or something else entirely.
If you’re a rigorous, curious and relentless journalist with a track record of unearthing stories and shaping the conversation on your beat, this role offers room to grow into your best work. Leave your ego at the door; our newsroom is highly collaborative and we believe direct feedback from trusted colleagues often turns great drafts into stellar work.
Responsibilities
- Report and write deeply informed, high-impact stories that shape aerospace and aviation narratives.
- Break original news and contribute to TAC/Intel, our exclusive scoops and insight feed.
- Develop (and protect) sources across the industry, government and technology sectors.
- Collaborate with the Editor-in-chief and fellow team members to pitch, refine and elevate stories (not just your own).
- Contribute to editing others’ work, manage coverage areas and help grow the newsroom’s capabilities.
- Represent The Air Current in interviews, briefings and at industry events as needed.
What We’re Looking For
- Proven reporting chops: 5+ years of experience in journalism with a portfolio that shows original reporting and narrative skill.
- Aviation/aerospace interest: You don’t need to be an expert on day one, but you should be obsessed with understanding how complex systems and industries work.
- Analytical rigor: You’re fluent in digging through filings, data and regulatory documents — and translating that complexity into clarity.
- Audience intelligence: You understand that our readers are often more informed than general audiences, and you write to inform, not impress.
- Initiative and autonomy: You know how to take a kernel of an idea and turn it into a must-read story. You thrive in an entrepreneurial, non-hierarchical newsroom.
- Collaborative mindset: You want to help build something bigger than yourself — and you want to do it with smart, driven, kind colleagues.
Nice to Have
- Subject-matter expertise in aerospace, defense, commercial aviation or adjacent verticals.
- Experience in a subscription-based or premium media environment.
- Editing experience or newsroom leadership or beat development.
- Data reporting or visualization skills.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary dependent on individual skills, experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
- Excellent health benefits
- Unlimited paid time off (which you are strongly encouraged to use!)
- Subscription to aviation data tools
- Annual travel budget for reporting and industry events
- Supportive, smart and ambitious team that respects a flexible remote work environment and encourages time to recharge
To Apply:
Send a resume, 2-3 clips that demonstrate your unique in-depth reporting style and skills along with a short note (not a cover letter) about what you’d want to cover at The Air Current — and why — to jobs [at] theaircurrent [dot] com. Please organize all of your application materials into a single PDF and make sure your last name is in the file name.
We don’t use generative AI in our editorial operations, and we expect that you will not in your application, either. We appreciate everyone who takes the time to apply and we will do our best to respond to every applicant. Thank you.
