OSHKOSH, Wis. — Continuing a series of experienced staff departures, the Federal Aviation Administration’s Office of Airports will lose its acting chief, Wayne Heibeck, who plans to retire in the next few weeks, three people briefed on the matter told The Air Current. The office, which oversees a multi-billion dollar portfolio of airport grant awards, is the only remaining agency arm that has yet to receive a permanent leader appointed by the Trump Administration.
A White House official told TAC it has not yet nominated someone for this position but “intends to.” The FAA said it is finalizing the decision for who will replace Heibeck in an acting capacity until the administration, which manages seven FAA political appointments, makes its selection.
